OUR HISTORY
The Maharashtra Fellowship for Deaf was founded by Lillian Ruth Doerksen, a missionary educator, who lived in India for more than 50 years. She spent most of her time at one of the Orphanage, where she educated and raised a family of 34 girls. One of her daughter from the orphanage gave birth to two deaf children. This saddened Lillian a lot. Furthermore, she learned that there were close to 9,00,000 deaf people in the state of Maharashtra alone. Lillian was moved by this fact and along with Mr. Arvind Meshramkar and Mrs. Tara Meshramkar they founded the Maharashtra Fellowship for Deaf in the year 1987. Today, MFD has two residential premises and number of activities. MFD is home to hundreds of deaf boys and girls, who are given residence, education and are taught important life skills.
